National Public Lands Day 2023: Scouts Join Privet Removal on the Canal Branch

On September 23, 2023, WATeR hosted National Public Lands Day along the Canal Branch section of the East Lakeshore Trail, with strong support from local Scout packs and troops. Before the work began, Bo Carey shared the history of Busseltown — the community that once existed in the Canal Branch area before the dams were built — and WATeR's John Shryock spoke on native versus non-native plants in the trail corridor. Volunteers then got to work removing privet, with supplies provided by TVA.
