Help Wanted

WATeR has dozens of volunteers, and many hands make light work. Following are some specific roles where volunteers can make a difference on the committees. Click thru to sign up.

Trails: 

  • Adopt-a-Trail: be part of a team to monitor a 2-3 mile section of the East Lakeshore Trail

  • Trail Crew: join a team that does bigger projects to maintaining or replacing elements like steps, footpaths, bridges.

  • Boat Captain: pilot the WATeR pontoon boat on trailbuilding or water testing missions

Water Quality Improvement Committee:

  • Water Testing: Collect water samples according to a protocol

  • Technical Support: maintain, develop, repair equipment and/or software

  • Boat Captain: pilot the WATeR pontoon boat on trailbuilding or water testing missions

  • Project Manager: Leadership of a project, coordinating between other volunteers and collaborators

Other areas:

  • Education/Outreach: Help with community events and communications

  • Editor: collect and publish material for education and publicity

  • Ecological Restoration: plant native plant materials, build rain gardens, shoreline restoration

  • Administrative: Coordinate, communicate, organize as needed

  • TEC Tree Distribution Project Manager: Lead the effort to distribute bareroot trees to residents of Monroe County, which are provided by the Tennessee Environmental Council. This role is simply to organize a one day distribution activity. It is an annual event requiring about 20 hours to assist
